ABOUT

Custom kitchen knives represent a beautiful intersection of function and art in a way that few other objects can. A blade as a canvas and the task of preparing food as a mission, gracefully fulfilling their function is as much an element of their beauty as their appearance. Given as a gift, these tools are more than a cherished story, they are a physical manifestation of memories as an object. The memories of talks over lunch, romantic dinners, the laughter of a party, every meal prepared is a story tied together and intertwined with others by a common thread, the tool used to do it. The faces of the blade tell a tale of every cut through the colorful patina developed through use, wholly and totally unique to the hand and preferences that guide it. The material wears its secrets proudly, through the movement in the designs played out on the surface of pattern welded steel or through the impressions left by the forging process of a plain carbon steel blade. There is a legend of their making hidden in plain sight in every mark, each element of design and structure making way for the next. If given the care needed to nurture the life inside of them these knives will survive to become legends in their own right. Custom kitchen knives are more than a tool for preparing food, they are a story of life that can outlive history itself.

Through almost a decade of experience and education under and along side some of the great minds of contemporary custom knife making, bladesmith Zoe Potter has taken it upon herself to breathe life into these tools with her unique perspective of artistry applied to the trade.
